 SENIOR MECHANICAL DESIGN ENGINEER

 

Job Requirements and Objectives

The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for the interpretation of technical specification requirements, Engineering detailed design, CAD modelling and production of all relevant technical documentation.

Responsible to:  Engineering Manager

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Applying a minimum of ten years engineering knowledge and experience to enable the competent and effective design of PSI systems / equipment
  • Application of professional design skills, using PSI licensed Autodesk Inventor and Vault 3D modelling software while ensuring safe orderly storage of requisite drawing files
  • Designing all types of equipment and systems for Vacuum, Pressure, Water, Hydraulic, Pneumatic, High pressure Gas and Induction heating
  • Awareness of European pressure standards and directives and critical pressure safety systems and system CE approval process
  • In conjunction with Project Engineering working to agreed deadlines with a focused approach to given tasks
  • Active senior team member will contribute to project development with diligent positive approach to challenging situations
  • Production of Bills of Materials – containing sub-assemblies, components and purchased items
  • Application of the PSI Design office practices with a sound understanding of Standard Procedures
  • Actively participate and train other team members in problem solving tasks with the Design Office Team
  • The ability to actively engage in technical knowledge building tasks and participate in any training requirements that the company deems to be necessary

Candidate Profile

  • The candidate must be able to demonstrate a combination of technical experience, people and business skills with meticulous attention to detail
  • They will be expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to improvement and attainment of quality standards in all of the services provided.  They will be able to work consistently under times of pressure
  • Working knowledge and proficiency of Autodesk Inventor 3D / Vault or Solid Works / PDM is highly desirable
  • Must have a sound understanding of engineering principles and relevant standards
  • Must have ability to calculate and assess engineering problems, using both hand calculations and software analysis (CFD & FEA)
  • Ability to design for Vacuum, Pressure, Water, Hydraulic, Pneumatic, High pressure Gas and thermal technologies
  • Control and Instrumentation knowledge or experience would be a bonus
  • The candidate will be self-motivated, with good verbal, writing and communication skills at senior management level. They should be able to demonstrate a full knowledge of the skills and behaviors required to efficiently complete the necessary tasks required of the Design Office and to have experience in a similar environment
  • They will demonstrate perseverance, patience and the ability to work to pre agreed schedules
  • A full driving licence is essential, as is a current British Passport and the ability and willingness to occasionally travel to any country in the world for short time durations

PROJECT / PLANNING ENGINEER

 

Job Requirements and Objectives

In order to meet the company’s planned growth with an increasing workload of Research and Development projects together with large system orders for new process equipment contracts we are now looking for a full time experienced skilled Project / Planning engineer to oversee the planning and timely execution of large project phases with a particular emphasis on time management, delivery and associated budgetary cost controls.

PSI has a strong background in investing in both internal as well as externally funded R&D programs. The successful applicant will play a key role in our culture of collaboration and creativity, bringing new ideas and ways of working that drive innovation.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Understand, agree and develop engineering project objectives by studying design requirements, specification documents and technical engineering drawings
  • Apply and represent the true companies interests and objectives
  • Work within the engineering team managing own workload of multiple large projects with integrity and diligence. This will include working in coordination with UKI Government R&D programmes involving external partners
  • Provide and apply accurate, results orientated professional project management skills
  • Understanding and organising anticipated labour requirements on a project
  • Carrying out, evaluate and understand risk on project plans
  • Ensure all the aims of the project are met
  • Making sure the quality standards are met
  • Monitoring internal work instructions and sub-contractors to ensure directives and guidelines are maintained
  • Understanding of budgets and costings within an engineering based environment
  • Reporting to the company directors, management team and funding partners on progress by means of attending review meetings and presentations
  • Evaluating the success of the project against its benchmarking and sharing lessons or best practice with other team members
  • Apply high levels of communication skills within company using Project planning Gantt chart software and other project management tools
  • Ideally have experience or understanding of mechanical, vacuum and electrical systems used in large specialised processing equipment assemblies
  • Supporting Sales team with engineering problem solving which includes technical dialogue post system sales
  • Generate CAD drawings suitable to support the system sales requirements

Candidate Profile

  • BEng in a relevant Engineering subject  
  • Project and planning management background with a minimum of 3 years’ experience within a systems engineering business environment

SYSTEMS ENGINEER (SKILLED/SEMI-SKILLED)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a skilled – semi-skilled mechanical engineer to join our team within the system builds facility. 

Job Specification

This role would be suited to a keen enthusiastic individual that is looking for an opportunity in career advancement in a multi-disciplined, engineering systems build environment. The ideal candidate will typically be from a mechanical or maintenance engineering background.

Duties to include, but not limited to:

  • Working with their own skills and initiative using engineering techniques and procedures together with recognition and awareness of current HSE safe working Regulations.
  • Minimum Qualification standards: – Mechanical Engineering BTEC Advanced or similar.
  • Ideally from engineering – maintenance background with a strong mechanical bias with some understanding of vacuum, water cooling pipework, pneumatic and hydraulic systems within both sub-assemblies and large assembly builds would be an advantage.
  • General erection and disassembly of process plant equipment
  • Assist with sub system bench build and equipment tests, including configuration and calibration
  • Experienced in setting and using manual lathe and milling machines.
  • Part of a small team working within a safe modern working environment.
  • Training given within specific specialist areas if required.
